                                                           EASTERN CAPE OPEN BOXING

The Eastern Cape Amateur Boxing Organisation was the first sporting body that followed the new political demarcation of the democratic South Africa after it was proclaimed.

The primary duty of ECABO is to nurture horn and shape the talent of boxers in the unpaid ranks and bring medals for the Province and the country.

From its inception ECABO has been able to participate in National and International levels respectively.

In 1996 Hawk Makepula participated in Olympics in Atlanta and was the first Flag Bearer from the Province.

In the year 2000, Phumzile Matyhila and Zolani Marali qualified to participate in Olympics in Sydney in Australia.

In 2004, Ludumo Galada also made it to Greece in Athens.

In 2012 Siphiwe Lusizi and Ayabonga Sonjica made their way to London Olympics.

Through these years Eastern Cape has contributed more bearers in the National teams although others couldn’t go through the qualifying process.

These boxers are Simphiwe Nongqayi, Ludumo Lamati, Thulani Mbenge, Mzimeni Msuthu.  All of them brought Medals for the country in various tourneys.  Currently, there are five boxers in the National Team out of Ten divisions that came from ECABO, All other eight provinces share the remaining five.

This is a demonstration of how hardworking and committed our clubs are.

For 2016 in RIO, ECABO doesn’t only want to be part of the National Team but bring Medals for the country and the Province.
